Thrifting - Great for the Environment, Great for the Community!
The whole purpose of a thrift store is to reduce waste in the landfill and give gently used items a second life. Trinkets & Togs Thrift Store is proud to serve as a resource to our community to recycle various items like clothing and home goods, helping to reduce landfill waste and support a sustainable community.
Buying used goods cuts down on manufacturing demands and keeps more items out of the landfill. Many of the items donated are gently used and some are even new! Trinkets & Togs has such a variety of items at a lower cost than department stores, giving customers the opportunity to get great deals while supporting a great cause. The flow of second-hand giving goes both ways. Items or clothes you no longer use, you can donate back to Trinkets & Togs and offer up goods another may be searching for. The act of recycling not only enables us to feel good about our actions but, again, keeps money in the local economy and supports the green living movement.
So, what happens to the items that don’t get sold? We recycle! Trinkets & Togs has worked diligently over the years to secure partnerships with various vendors to recycle as much as possible. Over 200,000 pounds of clothing was diverted from the landfill in 2023 and benefit third world countries. We recycle shoes, hats, belts, and purses as well as plastics, metals, and books. We have community partnerships through our crisis assistance program and recycling program to support other community agencies and missions such as Habitat for Humanity, Friends of the Family, Operation Threshold, and more. And we reuse and repurpose items as well! We take donations of newspaper and grocery sacks to be used in the store. We also cut old t-shirts into rags, using them inhouse to clean and also sell to local businesses.
And the revenue from the thrift store supports services for individuals with disabilities and the elderly right in our community. Donate local, support local!
