Community Support Services are services that are provided to assist a person residentially. The Larrabee Center offers several of these services for a variety of special needs.
Supported Community Living
Supported Community Living (SCL) services are provided to individuals with a mental illness, intellectual disabilities, brain injury, or developmental disabilities to enable them to develop supports and learn skills that will allow them to live, learn, work, and socialize in the community. Services are provided in the client’s home or in a community setting where skills are to be learned or used. Services include training in the areas of daily living skills, medication, social and vocational assistance, crisis management, financial management, transportation, and other areas the individual considers necessary to be successful in an independent living situation. The staff will assist the client to access additional community resources, as well as develop natural supports. Funding for this service is generally provided through the client’s county of legal residence. The counties have Central Point of Coordination staff to assist with securing funding when clients are eligible.
HCBS Waiver Services
The Larrabee Center provides services under Home and Community Based Waivers through the Brain Injury Waiver and the Intellectual Disability Waiver. These services are provided to individuals with brain injuries or mental retardation which limit their ability to function independently. Staff provide direct support and assistance in order to help these individuals live and integrate successfully in their home and community. Services include assistance in daily living skills, medication and medical needs management, community social/recreational skills training, crisis management, and financial management. Funding for this service is provided through Medicaid Waivers. The Department of Human Services secures funding when clients are eligible.
Consumer Directed Attendant Care
Consumer Directed Attendant Care or CDAC services focus on assisting the elderly to remain in their home and community. Services may include housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation and clean up, setting up medical appointments, shopping, running errands, and helping with communication. CDAC services are individualized and provided to enhance the quality of life for the individuals served. Funding for this service is provided through the Elderly Waiver through Medicaid. Hawkeye Area Agency on Aging can assist with securing funding.
